I’ve got an interesting problem with one of my 930’s, the piston for the 3PT sticks.I thought I had a valve problem so I took the valve off and the 3PT hitch arms were still in the raised position. So I took the loader tractor and applied weight to the arms and lowered them. (P.S. I found out you don’t want to do this unless you want an oil bath) I rebuilt the Piston for the 3 Point about 15 years ago and it was tight when I rebuilt it but it would lower with weight added. I don’t use this tractor for 3PT jobs anymore and the only thing I can think of is rust in the cylinder. I also have a 2nd problem; I have a rear axle seal leaking.
When I put a dial indicator on the axle buy the tire and I had .030 play. The other side has .010 play but doesn’t leak. What’s the normal amount of play for the axle movement on a 930? The book I have says tighten axle nut until no noticeable play exist. That seems a little broad to me. Although I must admit I’m the guy that uses a micrometer a lot. |

| You may want to pull the loose axle & check the bearings. Years ago when I still planted with the 830 & 6 row planter, I was almost done for the year & the seal started leaking, by the time I was done & going home 6 miles it was leaking worse, me & Dad tore it apart & found the bearing cups very bad. Put in new bearings, washed the transmission housing out with a hand sprayer & diesel fuel & things have been fine since. This was on an early 830 ("62) non Comfort King |

| Not sure about your 3pt problem, but when you are dealing with Timkin tapered bearings you always adjust to no play and then tighten a bit to preload them. Not sure what service manual you have, or what a Case manual would say, (either a fraction of a turn tighter or a rolling torque in inch pounds or ft.lbs. To adjust the bearings you will need to pull the drawbar, drop the drawbar assy, Don't remove, Remove it totally from tractor. The leaf springs will support the assy. The complete hyd/PTO housing will have to be removed to acess the nuts on the bull gears/ end of axles. A over head, or cherry picker and a 3' peice of pipe that slides over the PTO shaft works well to remome and reinstall the housing. Tighten bearings with the big nuts, after straightening the washer tabs. Rotate each axle to check for smoth rotation, then tighten to specs. and rebend the tabs. PS you will need at least 3 5gal buckets to drain the tranny. Be sure to move the full buckets from under the tranny, before you remove the last bolt on the drawbar assy., and it rotates down on it's own. BTDT, big mess. Then reassemble. Loren |
