case 311 brakes

Hi, to all
Looking for suggestions on best place to obtain brake shaft seals, the o rings, and shaft end caps for a case 311. I replaced the seals a couple years ago and the replacement were much narrower/thinner than the seals I removed. Any suggestions for sliding seals over shaft, other than wax paper or saran wrap to protect seals when sliding over the splined shaft?
Thank You in Advance.

The best place I have found is your friendly Case Ag or Construction Equipment dealer.

Seal - G10689 is the original part number that was replaced by A39273 which was replaced by A49796

O-Ring - 510828

The last seals I got from Case were from an Asian manufacturer (Korea or Taiwan). You can also contact your local Timken bearing retailer, and give him/her the case parts numbers above, or stipulate a seal with the following dimensions: 3" OD x 2" ID x 1/2".

The current seals Case is stocking are "hi-temp", but that is not what I have removed from several tractors.

The best trick for getting the seal over the splined shaft and on the shaft shoulder without cutting or rolling the seal is wrapping the shaft with a single wrap of 2" duct tape. Place the inward edge of the duct tape on the edge of the shoulder where the seal seats when installed. The 2" duct tape should nearly cover the shaft/spines from that point outward. If it doesn't cover all of the splines finish covering them with electrical tape, overlapping the duct tape. then coat the tape and the seal lip with a thin film of oil prior to attempting to install the seal.

The duct tape is stiff enough it will help guide the seal across the cavity between the splines and the shoulder mentioned above. Go slow and support the shaft...keeping it centered in the middle of the seal.

I wasted a couple of seals not because of tears caused by the splines, but because of the seal rolling as I attempted to push the seal over the shoulder.

Others have used a swage, electrical tape, cardboard, etc, etc, but the best solution I have found (in the absence of the proper tool Case offered) is duct tape and a measure of patience. - Joe
