I recently changed the waterpump on my LA Case. I earlier took the side cover off the engine and looked inside. Everything was good. Well, I changed the water pump ran the engine for awhile and decided to change the oil/filter. I pulled the drain plug and the oil was full of water.

Is there any way water could have got in the engine while changing the water pump? My gut instinct tells me I have o-ring problems and better make some decisions.

You probably changed the water pump because it was leaking. If so, did you run the engine low on water prior to changing the pump. If so, maybe a cracked head. I know of no other reason for SUDDEN massive leakage into the oil pan.

When I was looking to buy a Case LA in the salvage yard, upon pulling the oil drain plug, out came a gallon of water. Bought the tractor anyway, and found when I got it home that one of the engine inspection plates had a gasket that had formed a small funnel on the top edge. This was funneling rain water into the crankcase every time it rained for who knows how long. So, it was not an internal problem after all. In view of this, check or replace those gaskets on the inspection plates and keep the bolts tightened. --- Derrol in Texas (Case LA Propane)

You should drop the oil pan and see if any coolant is dripping from from the sleeves. Hal

If the seal on the front of the crankshaft is bad, water from the water pump drip or leak can go in there. You can remove a front inspection cover and watch. One way to prevent is to park tractor downhill.
