Topic: turning up fuel on 930 case diesel

I have a 930 case diesel comfort King seems to run fine but I need a tractor with a wee bit more power than my stock 930.So what I’m asking is how or what do I need to do to turn the fuel up. I knew of some guys that turned their old 930’s up to 106HP on one and 112hp on another but I can’t remember exactly what they did. Is there more to it than setting the high rpm’s? I’m thinking they advanced the timing by 2 degrees along with turn up the RPMs plus I thought they did something else but I can’t remember I don’t want to leave it turned up unless it handles it ok (meaning it doesn’t get to hot) I have a 1370 that needs work and I’m trying to make a deal on another bigger tractor but until then I need a little more power What can I do stock 930 diesel turns 88HP stock 970 turns 93HP I would like to get close to 100HP is it possible? |

| On my 830 com I took the gov cover on the back off and turned in the little screw with the locknut one turn.Then on the front unscrew the 3/4 capscrew with two flat sides and you will find the end of the rack control rod,{move throttle back and forth and you will see it go in and out}take screw out of end of rod as it holds two or three little thick washers.Takeing more washers out allows rack rod to travel further opening pumps for each cyl.more to get more fuel.If all washers are taken out there is a chance of a runaway so be ready to shut it down just in case.Mine didnt.Revs more and has more power. | Doing what CASE calls an altitude fuel adjustment will put more fuel into the cylinder. It will not get you a lot more hp. Maybe 5 at the most. With a diesel you will need more cubes from the old style engines to get more HP. With the newer styles with direct injection you can force more air in and more fuel will give you more HP then. I think what I was taught diesel like a 22 to 1 air to fuel ratio. More fuel needs more air. |

| | Jim, J Case has a good question below. I am curious as to what pump adjustments were made on the 188 diesel used for the 430/530/630 series tractors. From my reading its just an injection pump adjustment to get the higher HP for each tractor. This would take it beyond the range of 5 HP. Since the engine displacement is the same and I don't think manifolds or heads are different I am having a hard time understanding this one. Did the 430 start out at a much lower than 22 to 1 ratio and the 630 get up to that point? Jim G. |

| He is talking about in line pumps. The fuel setting and rpm's were different in the 430's 530's and 630's. Rated speed was 1750, 1900, and 2000 for the dry clutch models. Compression ratio was 17.5 for all of the 188D's. |

| Jim Could you explain the (altitude fuel adjustment) please. Was that for non turbo or turbo charged engines? |
