oakridge 11-18-2009 15:09:04 68.69.30.30 148168 Report to Moderator	I have a mid 70's 1370 Agri King and just under the dash there is a seal that is leaking and when i had it looked at about 2 yoears ago they said i would have to split the tractor to fix this seal that is right in the steering column i was wounder if anyone else has had this prooblem if so easy it fairly easy to fix or if anyone has an idea how to fix the seal i think if you were able to get the sterring column part you would be able to fix it but how hard is it to pull the steering column [Reply]   [Send Email]

The dealer said that it was very tight tolerances and you had to do the icebox and oven thing to reassemble it. I took it out and took it to them. It turned out to have a crack in one of the major castings so the whole unit had to be replaced.   [Reply]   [No Email]
B Reimer 11-18-2009 20:01:17 206.45.203.29 148188 Report to Moderator	Re: 1970's Case 1370 Agri King in reply to oakridge, 11-18-2009 15:09:04   I did my seal on a 2470 once and didn't think about how it was put together before taking it apart and when I started it up the steering wheel cranked to one side real fast and then I could hear the hyd. system staining on the bypass. Had to take it off and to the dealer to get it timed, so it's not as easy as it looks from the outside.   [Reply]   [No Email]

I think there is a spiral snap ring that holds the seal in. Lift column out of the way and of the shaft.Remove the snap ring.Turn pump shaft and internal oil pressure will push seal out.I did not remove lines or pump.   [Reply]   [Send Email]

Although some work to remove it is do-able and once removed should be taken to a progressive dealer with a reputable shop for repair. they are a precision unit with internal orings and they should be repaired by someone with experience. oakridge 11-18-2009 20:50:29 68.69.30.30 148189 Report to Moderator	Re: 1970's Case 1370 Agri King in reply to oakridge, 11-18-2009 15:20:44   I do know my fare share i was asking to make sure cause my grandfather has put a head gasket in it before about 15 years ago and said i didnt need to retighten it once i torqued it down in which any gas or smaller tractor motor ive done a rebuild to i always ran them for 20 mins then shut it off let it sit about an hour and retorqued them but my grand father insitsted that you dont need to retorque them any i used that forum to show him other ppl even say it should be retorqued also i will admit when the one person said walking i was not sure on what they ment but sorta figured the gasket moving up and down. The hand pump seal must have went dry because not running for a while but most work i do is on a case 2090,2290,584,684,4366,and a couple older tractors we barly use and this is the first time ive ever had a chance to work on the 1370 cause its the first time it broken down well ive been fixing tractors.   [Reply]   [Send Email]

Mel has been a factory trained, authorized mechanic for Case since 1962!! No offense but sounds like you, your Dad and Grandfather know everything there is to know about tractors and don't need any advise so why post here and then get all POed when you don't hear what you think you already know. If I were you I would take Mel's advice, it will probably save you money in the long run, you read some of the other posts about trying to do it them selves. If you try this and reassemble it wrong and/or damage the unit I am betting you will pay through the nose at a good Case shop to fix your mistakes when you finally give up and take it in.   [Reply]   [Send Email]
