I recently bought a 1175 and I can not get the PTO to engage. The Lever does not seem to do anything at all. Any suggestions? |

if other things are working i assume you have hyd. pressure to the pto, I have seen where the housing for the sealing rings allowing the rings to expand and break the hooks off the ends, these hook to eack other making a zero gap for sealing hyd. oil, once broken they do not seal.

Check the cable that goes from the lever to the valve on the right side of the transmission housing. If the cable is broken at the lever end make sure the pivot in the lever that the cable goes into is not stuck or the new cable can break the first time you try to turn the PTO on. The PTO shaft should NOT turn easily by hand with the engine shut off. The brake is spring loaded, hydraulic pressure releases the brake when the clutch is applied.

Tom, I apologize. I did not want to condemn anyone. I thought I was clarifying a point. I will try again and if it causes more problems here I won't post again. If the 70 series brake is working correctly the PTO shaft is very hard to turn by hand when the tractor is not running. When the brake is worn they can be turned more easily. I know I am a little off topic here but the 90 series PTO brake is hydraulicly engaged and one should not be able to turn it while the tractor is running but the shaft turns very easy when the engine is off.

try turning the pto shaft with engine off, it should turn by hand, I have seen bearings tie up then the next time you turn on pto it wipes out the clutch packs also when you engage the pto lever with motor running you should see a slight movement in trans pressure gauge if pto valve is working properly
