I know the '53 or '54 SC had a left side foot clutch, but never drove one. I spent hundreds of hours on a '40 SC with hand clutch, smooth as silk and you could easily stand on the ground and with a two finger touch inch the SC backwards toward you while hooking up a wagon. No so the dammmed JD "jump-jump" we also had. Even a new 51 B JD wasn't smooth. About the only way you could stand on the ground and run the clutch with them was to grab the clutch handle down at the pivot point so the rearward motion (not smooth) wouldn't further engage the clutch. How does the foot clutch on an SC work with that seat position? I thought the seat position would be like the IH F20 and that wasn't exactly comfortable or easy to control. At least on an H or M, you sat up higher and could get some down pressure on the pedal. Leonard

I started on a foot clutch SC at 8 years old (when my legs were long enough to sit on the edge of the seat and push it in). While I am not totatly averse to the hand clutch, we had an LA, JD R and D2 Cat with clutch lever. My preference is the foot clutch because that is what I started on but either is OK with me.

As far as pulling, our SC was a pretty good tractor based on its HP. Yes, the DC was a bigger engine and pulled more but the SC pulled 3 14's in 2nd some times 3rd gear in the central Texas black gumbo. It would pull the 3 14s on the flat spots and down hill in NW Colorado at altitudes of +/-7,000 ft but as we all know Case tractors were heavier built that the equivalent size competitive tractors and what it took to pull the tractor itself UP the steep wheat fields caused us to remove one bottom from the BER plow.

I think its all in what you started with and if you started on a DC that is where your heart and preferences will always stay. I still like the SC and here in central Texas its a good 3 plow tractor, stump pusher, gravel road grader and many other things we all need a tractor to do around the "place". If I can ever find a 53/54 SC in decent shape I will probably be forced (<: to put it in my collection.

Jim, we didn't have any barn doors to tear off so I can't identify with that problem. I did get it stuck in the mud a time or two and it took the LA or 830 to pull it out though.

My foot clutch SC and DC are both equipped with the higher sitting torsion spring seat. I find the clutch to be very conveniently placed and easy to operate. Very, very nice operating tractors.

Far be it my me to critize case as I have some really good dc, however I have notices at tractor pulls and talking to old friends that some SC's will pull like there is no tomorrow while others just puff out right when you need it most. Dinda like the old JD R's Just when one thinks let's go it powers out. Many times I have wondered if the situation was in the valve timing. Possible key ways in cam gears cut different or cam geind. However the SC was a good little tractor. Any body else noticed this???

The late SC's had the rubber-tortion-suspension seats that sat up a littel higher. I've got one and they work great. No probem with angle, but I wouldn't recommend operating one from the ground.

Nope , best not operate the ft clutch from Ground ,, I love that about the hand clutch DC I have run since I was 12 yrs old , when hooking up equipment ,, Gentle and Smooth , ( but yet potentially Dangerous , Dad always preached to shut off tractor , AND WITH KILL SWITCH OFF , crank starter motor .. The ft clutch DC , I have requires a Longer legg to stab the clutch ,, I am short legged LOL .....
