Here is my 12 volt conversion on my Case 311. The bottom bracket is an off the shelf part. Mr Gasket # is 720-9850, but you can get non chrome ones, too. I had to use some washers & spacers on the bottom to get the pulley to line up straight. The upper bracket is similar to the one in the pic. Mr. Gasket # 865-4723. I used some old stuff I had laying around, but you can buy this stuff easily if needed. I cut it off and drilled a hole where indicated to bolt it to the front of the block. When it's all done there is almost NO adjustment. I have to hold it up, hook the belt into the pulley and then slide the bottom bolt through all the washers & spacers. Can't remember if I had to buy a longer belt or not, but I don't think so. Big green wire goes to the Amp guage, and then to the battery. One small wire loops around to the BAT terminal and the other goes to hot off of the key switch. After that, reverse the wires on the coil and add a ballast resistor if still using the 6v coil. I hope this helps some folks out there.

Thanks very much for the follow-up pics! I just found them today or would have replied earlier: thanks for going to the extra trouble.

I suspect they will be helpful to others as well as to me. I'll save them -- and make hard copies of the pics -- for future reference.

Actually, I'll probably convert an alternator to 6V just to get some extra charging rate for the way I tend to use the tractor: not for long periods, usually, but I keep finding more uses for the 311 which I have just gotten from retired neighbors' farm.

Anyhow, thanks again.

Mark

The pic of the lower bracket is one I took off the web. If you look close at mine, you will see that the legs bend upward slightly. You will want one that bends up like that to get the alignment right. Mine was one I had laying around from some old GM product, but at least you get the idea....
