47 Case SC, low but consistent cyl pressure. Previous owner put 50wt racing oil in it and Lucas oil treatment. It runs 20 psi until it gets warmed up good (180 degrees) then it drops to around 10 psi I want to change the oil. What would you guys suggestion be for a good all year round oil. Wont be used in the winter, and OKla doesnt get that cold in the winter anyway. Thanks! |

| You better have 5 Qts on hand. Pull the top sideplug in your oilpan. When you get oil coming out of there, it is full. Also, did you drain the oil out of the oil filter canister (if so equipped)? Have a 6th Qt handy to top off with after you have run an hour or 2.

| It sounds like your sc is about the same shape as my '41 sc. I run 50wt and 2 bottles of stp or some lucas. I don't run it too hard knowing it needs attention. If I need to do heavy work I use my Farmall H as it has a fresh engine and clutch. The old sc still runs pretty good though. I took her to plow day a couple weeks ago. I knew the ground was easy plowing and we were only doing a little. |

| The owners manual says 30sae summer 10w winter for an engine in good repair. Yours seems to be in need of "special" consideration due to long hard use. I use 10w40 year around and only start it to use to clear snow in the winter. Summer it does whatever I want to do including plowing. I also am sold on Bardall and put in a quart on each oil change. Remove the valve cover and start it to see how much oil flow is coming out the crooked pipe at the junction of the rocker shafts. The orfice in the oil supply tube may be missing. It should have about a 1/16" hole in it if it is still there. Your low oil pressure could be due to this missing orfice. Normal high oil pressure is 25psi. Seven psi is the low limit. If you don't use it in winter and it does not knock or smoke bad and you are not pulling it hard, it will still run a long time with heavier oil, but not over 50sae. |
