I am looking to upgrade my old IHC backhoe to something a bit newer and more dependable. Unit will be used for farm use only. I would like to spend 10K to 20K. I am kind of drawn to the Case 580 but am open to anything. Would like to hear some comments from those of you that have experience and knowledge with hoes. Would you go for the extendahoe and 4WD? (I know that may stretch my budget). Also on the Case machines can someone explain the differences between the model designations like the 580E and 580K!Thanks! gwece |

| We got ours of of craigs list (480B), 2WD, with extendahoe for 6000. It needs new back tires, but the previous owner just changed all of the filters, along with rebuild all of the hydraulic cylinders. I have seen 580's go for around 15-20. If you lived closer to us, the guy down the road has a mint 580 for sale. I'm guessing he wants around 20 I have been meaning to stop and ask. He has two backhoes, and not much ground to use them on. |

| I wouldn't buy a hoe without 4WD. The difference it makes is like daylight from dark. I liked my neighbors 580 just fine, but I've ran a couple of Cat hoe's, and really liked them, too. I guess it all boils down to the best deal you can find. |

| Personally I would not buy anything earlier than a C model Case hoe. The reason is that the C's were the first "modular" unit and driveline servicing if required is much easier. They are affordable now. I concur with Tim on the 4wd comment, that makes a real workhorse out of them especially for snow removal. mEl |
