The brakes are self adjusting and if all is free to move easily they will take care of themselves. remove the adjusting nut, clean and lube the threads so the nut moves easily and reinstall. if the SA dog is on the lever as it is supposed to be you will have to hold it back to unscrew the adj nut. Make sure all SA parts are there and you will never have to worry about adjusting the brakes. A sticky Park Brake cable will also screw up SA action as it will prevent the brake arm from dropping to its full rest position. At the age of these machines the master cylinders are also a point of concern as most that havn't been already replaced are beyond rebuild. Two inches of travel on the pedals or a bit more is acceptable. mEl |
