I have a D14 with no power steering. Can you convert it to power steering and if so how much trouble is it?
George

My 58 model D-14 has power steering on it. The only problem that I have had with it is that one of the supply lines that goes to the pump had a small hole in it from wearing against the other line on the pump and had to replace the supply line. I had tried brazing the hole, but it didn't hold as it was on the high pressure side. So I was able to get a new line from AC. That was kind of a trick to replace, but I got it done. When changing the line and reconnecting, you have to make sure that the air gets out of the line. If you don't, the pump will not operate smoothly when you turn the steering wheel.

Does it have the reservoir tank on the side of the motor? Early ones had it that way.

Might have been standard on the D15, optional on the D14. Lots of times, options become standard on later models, cars as well as tractors. I don"t think my "58 D17 had PS, but my "63 Series III has it. WD45 came out in "53, PS was first an option in "56. WD45 and D series PS were very different styles.

My D-17 which is a 59 or 60 has power steering on it. It is a pain in the back sides to fill since you fill it by removing the grill. Now if it was an option or standard who knows

I also have a D-14 with factory power steering. I know it is original as the tractor has never been off the farm since it was delivered from the dealer.

Sure. As old says, power steering was available starting with the WD45.
It's just not very common on the D14. Consider yourself fortunate. Unlike the WD, the D series without power steering was a challenge!

Yes,Ive seen the pulley, and pump on the wd-45 applications, but this sucker is fed with steel lines from the hydraulic pump on the motor to the steering motor up under the front end.(nothing like a wd-45)not even close

I don't believe anyone was trying to say the WD45 and D series steering were the same.
Just that since power steering was offered prior to the D series, it wouldn't make sense for it to not be available later.

Same set up as on some D-17s and there was a few different power steering set up used over the years

Yep know what you mean. The one on my D-17 leaks some and I have yet to figure out where it leaks so I have to fill it up a couple time a year but then I only use the tractor during ay season

This D-17 I have was a fence row dead tractor when I got it. When I first got it home it seemed like the engine was full of mouse nest as in 3 or the 4 cylinders had lots of straw etc in them. I did my normal ATF soak and got it to slowly fire on one cylinder then 2 then 3 and now you could not tell it was that bad off. It does look like it got pretty hot at one time also as in maybe a fire or some such thing but boy does it run and start well now

I can not say for sure but on many power steering was an option and I think that option came out with the WD45 so since the D series came after could well have been an option on that one. By the way as I said not 100% sure just speculating since I know you can get it on the WD45
