I have seen that plug removed when a tractor was flooded ,to help the tractor to start easier.

These ports were used for attaching a vacuum gauge to set the carburetor air fuel mix and distributor timing correctly.Go to Goggle to check this out. They were used for operating a milking machine when the electricity was off.

Bill, Yes it was. Kinda a lost art for many now unless into high performace racing engines. I remember setting the idle mixture on many small blocks years ago with one.

Actually, I think it's an 1/8 inch pipe plug, but yes, farmers often used it for a vacuum tap to run a couple milking units when the power went out. ok for occasional use....not good for steady use. BTDT while growing up. Grease gun angled end fit perfectly, small hose from there to the nearest spigot in the barn vacuum line.......better than pulling (cow) teats by hand!

On our Allis WD, we always kept a petcock installed so when the power was out, we could still machine milk the cows. It was a little slower but was a whole lot faster than hand milking. We would just drive the tractor into the barn near the vacuum pump and hook to the barn's line and the running tractor became the defacto vacuum pump.

That plug is in the intake/vacuum section. Probably used for a milking machine.
