I am totally missing what you are asking. Are you talking about the axle its self being in need of weld or the wheel center? Both the axle and pinon shaft sets in tapered bearings with a hard cup that I can see now way it would still pull its self and still wear out the cup and distory the housing.

| normally 80% of the wear is the bushing and 20% is the spindle shaft itself. Normal procedure is to replace the bushings and use the old spindle shaft and it will be MUCH better. You can replace the spindle if you find a better one, or weld up and turn down, but normally you can get by with the old spindle. |
