Does anyone have a bearing cross reference for the AC part numbers? Specifically, I am looking for AC part numbers 211584 cup and 211585 cone which are the bearings for the steering worm shaft for my 1944 WC. |

| From an old catalog, I can cross to Gleaner numbers: 211584 is Gleaner EHX-6001 211584 is Gleaner RSX-9008 211585 is Gleaner EHX-6002 These might help in cross referencing. |

| Don,
According to another poster, the bearings were a Shafer Cup 23700 and a Shafer Cone 23704. I checked and the cone is no longer available unless you can find a NOS bearing.
Like Butch suggested, take measurements. Measure the inside of the cone and the outside of the cup. If there was no damage other than normal roller surfaces wear, these will be your most accurate. The overall thickness of both cup and cone together only has to be close if shims are used to load the bearing. |

| | Thanks, md. There were two different bearings on the worm shaft when I disassembled it. One end had a Link-Belt Cup 23700 and Link-Belt Cone 23704 which I'm guessing is probably the same as the Shafer bearing. This Link-Belt bearing is a tapered spherical roller bearing. The other end had a Timken cup 15523 and Timken Cone 15578. This Timken bearing is a straight tapered roller bearing. According to the parts manual both bearings should be the same. That's why I wanted to know what the AC numbers cross-referenced to, so I could figure out which one is the correct bearing. Like the Shafer bearing, the Link-Belt bearing is no longer available, so it may not matter which bearing is correct since it probably isn't available any more. |

| I have had just enough problems with "interchanged" part numbers that I tend to use other methods. The numbers on the old parts are manufacturers numbers not A-C numbers and can be used to source replacements. Lacking that information I have found it both easier and best to measure the shaft and bore and find the bearings in Timken's catalog. The newest version makes finding the right cup/cone combination very easy. You do need a reasonably accurate caliper for this, less than $10 at Harbor Freight. A tip is once you have the Timken number punch it into an Ebay search before you order at a local supplier as often you will find NOS bearings for half retail including the ship. |

| Thanks for the link. I went there and found the 211584 but I couldn't find anything for the 211585 cone. Is there something I am missing? |
