Hello,I just finished replacing the ring & pinion and reassembling my I-60 backhoe. What a job that was. I have a question about the oiling. I refilled the hydraulic oil using the filler/dipstick at the left hand side of the gauge panel (opposite the gear shift). No problem there. I have another breather / dipstick at the right hand side behind the gauge panel (closer to the engine). This had no oil level and the dipstick reads "full only if no hydraulic system" I did not drain this system when removing the transmission - so can I presume that the hydraulic fluid will be pumped there from the main reservoir? I have the shop manual, but there is no capacity / filling information at all. The dipstick did have clear-ish oil remnant on the stick, so it had oil in it prior to disassembly. This reservoir appears to be a return for the power steering, so I"m thinking that once the power steering pump is turning, it will fill it. Any one have any experience here? I know the I-60 is kinda scarce.... |

| I know on an Ag tractor, there is a hyd pump, in that compartment, that would be the main pump for the tractor hydraulics, but am unsure, on a I-60. I would fill up the compartment, and leave the dipstick out. If it's too full, on the initial start up, it will belch a little fluid out, but shouldn't hurt anything. Running the pump dry, however, can cause large $ problems, as it runs off of a lobed camshaft, and is a roller piston pump. |
