My '36 and '37 WCs are identical except the '37 has a hole in the hood for the temp. guage. Some time between '36 and '37 they changed the rear mounting for the gas tank, the '36 mounting slopes in about 7in. under the tank. On the '37 (most '37s) the the '38s the mounting goes straight up matching the front mounting. Thanks again for the pictures. [Reply]  [No Email]

I bought her the way she is in the lower picture. I think they all got "farmerized" along the way. After all, 76 years is a long time. I think she came out of the factory with steel wheels, and at some point, the owner had them cut off and had rims for rubber tires welded on. The parts book has square spokes on the rear steel with round spokes on the front wheels , and round spokes on the rear rubber and disc wheels for rubber on the front. Mine has an American Bosch magneto on it, and the book only shows Fairbanks-Morse. At some point, the small gas tank got removed and the line into the carburetor was soldered shut. And as you can see, the curved piece of metal is attached still. [Reply]  [No Email]

It also had spokes front and rear, painted black. Lettering was blue. My uncle's '37 WC (also purchased new) had the curve. His had disc wheels painted black and blue lettering. Both had different magnetos from those pictured in that the spark plug wires came out of the top of the magneto. In fact, the last WC pictured has coil and distributor ignition with the battery under the gas tank. That was an after market add on. As a matter of interest, AC didn't pay a whole lot of attention to "model year changes" in those days. I saw '37 WCs with disc wheels on one end and spokes on the other. They apparently used up stock in whatever way they wanted. They continued that policy for many years and would introduce things as they came available. Might be in the middle of the year. There is a GOTO here in Southern Minnesota on July 28-29 2012 in Hutchinson Minnesota at the fairgrounds in McCleod County. Always a great show and swap meet. Free admission.
