why do you need to stroke ? Puller ? If you want a few more HP on a daily use tractor, get the compression ratio up. Present is less than 7 to 1.. Mill the head, port the inlet / exhaust, check motor RPM spring on the governor, good carb with proper jets.

Yes I'm building a "puller". What would the compression need to be 9:1 ? Thanks for the info Steve.

Hey Dick L. in reply to SIDE x SIDE, 07-13-2012 19:36:41

Dick Lemmens has made pullers out of the 125 inch motors. I think he planes the head .200 inch to raise the compression (probably up to 9 to 1), then ports and polishes the intake and exhaust ports to get better flow. He has also put in larger chevy valves, but thats getting into a lot of work and cost. You can also up the RPM 2-300 RPM to get a little more kick off the line. Maybe some carb work to go with the bigger ports.. If Dick does not chime in, start another post with the title "hey dick l".

| | You want a D14 engine that is 149 cubes. Parts are available and that engine shouldn't be too tough to find. There is an overbore kit available that makes it 156 cubes. The D15 Series II engine is 160 cubes but it's what they call the "wide block" engine and won't look correct in the tractor. Parts are expensive and much more difficult to find than for the 149. I'm working on a CA puller right now and found a 149 power unit for it as a starting point. Zack Zack |

The latest and biggest version of that engine that I know of is the 160 cu in used in the late D15 tractor, and other various machines.
