It may be excessive horsepower, but it has excellent fuel economy. It uses less fuel than my MF85 gas which is 62 HP. I have lots of steep hills and my Massey was just big enough to pull the baler and full rack & it has loaded tires and weights. Now with the 190 I know I have enough power and it handles the weight of the baler and rack wagon better. You may be able to run a baler with less horsepower, but when the load pushes your little tractor down a hill you'll wish you had the bigger one. [Reply]  [No Email]

Just rough figuring the baler and the full racks together weigh around 9,000-10,000 pounds. My 190 weighs around 11,000 pounds. If you tried taking that load down a hill with a 30 HP tractor that weighs half as much you will DEFINITELY have a wreck. [Reply]  [No Email]

I would rather ride a 190XT all day long then a WD or Wc as others are talking about. Check to make sure it doesnt jump out of 3rd gear simply by going down a steep hil with it in 3rd gear. I prefer the 190 with hydraulic actuated PTO clutch. It's the only one my wife will agree to drive too. Fuel usage is so little it even amazed my FIL and he's a Deere man. Find a good 190 that's been well taken care of. It's worth paying a bit more for a good one. You won't regret it. [Reply]  [No Email]

If you can idle down and run your baler, I would venture to guess it will get way better economy then any of the smaller tractors. The biggest draw back is it doesn't have a true live pto. If weighed down and fuel turned up, then yes they had issues with the rear end. They were not made to run 130hp + If the tranny was abused they tend jump out of gear, typically 3rd gear. Otherwise a lot of people have used them and love them. The motor was very durable. [Reply]  [No Email]

He asked about a NH271 which I own one of and pull behind a WD at times or a D-17 or even the IH340 row crop. A 170 is over kill for that baler also [Reply]  [No Email]

That tractor is a 100HP tractor and if your planing to hook it to that NH271 your wasting a ton of fuel. That said the common problem with the 190XT was the transmission jumping out of gear and if it has that problem it will cost an arm and leg to fix. Either way f you want it to pull a square baler it is way to big look for a D-17 or other such or even a WD. To pull that NH271 you only need around 30HP. Ya if your going to do a big round baler you need a 60HP tractor but again not one as big as the 190XT I know I used one for my big round baler and it was way over kill as in being 25HP bigger the the manual for that baler said to even use [Reply]  [No Email]
