I would like to change my D-17 over to an alternator. It has a positive ground generator 12 volt system now. What would I have to change and does anyone have a schematic to show the switch over? |

| Going to an alternator means you change the ground the coil and amp gauge wires and that is about it. Now as far as what type of alternator I would install one made for say a 1980 Chev pick up no power any thing. Cost with out a core is around $45 at O'reilly's add another $10 for a core. Me I would never go with a 1 wire because of cost as in over $75 plus takes high RPM to kick them in which is hard on and engine at start up. Wiring is simple and is talked about all over in the archives or ask and I'll fill that in |

| As a minimum, you would have to change the polarity of the Ignition coil (assuming it is not a diesel), and swap the ammeter terminals. Nothing else is sensitive to polarity, including the starter motor. The alternator connection depends a lot on what type it is. The single-wire style is the easiest. |
