Hello,
I like things better that are all original the way they are supposed to be..But was wondering if these are the correct spindles for an allis c tractor (which is what they were on)can't really tell the numbers too much. But noticed that they weren't "sitting" square within the axle. All pictures that I've seen fit nice and square, I realize the brackets on the front are not right (probably)have been welded on............... Also has anyone had experience with a wide front end and steering linkage system like this? ......... Did it last or wear out? wreck steering box? wreck something else? .......................Wonder if any wide front pedestals are out there for sale that would would work better for this "set up".... I may/would probably be interested. I realize the best right thing to do is to buy a complete wide front end.. Anyways I will also try to attach a picture with this front end on a tractor but may not attach. But can probably email(on a word document) if someone really wants to see it.
thanks alot

To answer a couple more of your questions. The wide front on my tractor seems to have held up pretty good over the years. The pivot pins are a little loose. I'll probably spin up a couple bushings before painting. I believe the rod from the steering box to the front end is the same for narrow or wide front end. (someone correct me if I'm wrong) Mine is a bit loose, But not bad for the age and being non greaseable. Overall I think it's a pretty good design.

Keep us posted on your progress, Jon

Here's another shot and a link to my photo bucket with 12 pics of the front end. The square bar behind the tie rod is for the cultivators not the front axle.

While we are on the topic, how many of these wide front end c's do you guys see at the shows? I don't claim to be an Allis expert, just ended up with this one by accident.

I believe that front end was made by 3m, Mickey Mouse Manufacturing. Definitely a creative piece but nowhere near original. I've attatched several pictures of the wide front on my 1944 c. I can take any angle picture you need and post it if you let me know. Your tractor Probably started life as a narrow front end. Total c production was 84,030, 5,149 were wide front and 664 were single front wheel. I'd have to assume the rest were the regular 2 wheel narrow front. Good luck on your project and hope this helps. Jon

Jon, nice C, I notice that your radiator shutters are still intact also.. In my lifetime, I recall only one C on a dealer's lot with a wide front. And, that was back in the late 60's..

Over 93% of the C tractors had the two wheel narrow front end.. Lots of C narrow
fronts around here.. I am rather curious if the wide front C was more common in certain areas of the country..? It would be interesting to know what the optional cost of the wide front was back then.??

BDT, Thanks for the kind word about my poor old C. Paint job coming soon? (hopefully) I wound up with this tractor by accident, but it's starting to grow on me. Until I saw the production numbers I would have rather had a narrow front, but now I'm happpy with it. It's really in pretty decent shape. The radiator shutters are not just there but work good as new! The tractor came with mounted cultivators, all intact and working. It won't take much to make her real nice. Hopefully it will be done for 2013 Gathering Of The Orange.

In 1950 prices were as follows, narrow dual front wheel $1,180, adjustable wide front $1,260, single front wheel $1,205. I found this in Allis Chalmers farm tractors and crawlers data book. It is avalible from motorbooks.

Thanks, Jon

Sorry I would have to get the loader out to pick it up to take a picture that could help.
Like I said below the top casting is correct for the C. It looks like someone cut the correct steering arm off and welded an arm of sort to the [tie rod center part that would be correct for the C] so they could use a B steering box by welding it to the axle. I would think it would be very hard to steer that way. It is hard to tell what is usable to rebuild the front to some where correct. The top casting is the same for the narrow front and the wide front. Looking at the plate under it I would guess that the shaft and gear and short shaft that should be in that place was gone.
I would also guess that those parts would be hard to come by without buying a complete front end. Some times one of the ears get broken off the casting which could be a source for the cross shaft and bottom section. You can buy the steel tubing to build an axle.

Someone thought they had an idea. I have another word that describes what they thought was an idea. If it really worked for them they would most likely still have it.
The wishbone was constructed with flat iron for what ever reason.

I have been waiting for those more experienced to answer. After looking at the pictures again I couldn't wait any longer. I've never seen anything like it. Looks like some combination of home made/aftermarket work. I imagine that C, like most, was originally a narrow front.

Same here. Never seen one like that on a B, C, CA or the smaller D"s.

Sorry, that entire front end is a conglooburated mess... farmerization at it's finest.. It does make an interesting conversation piece... The narrow front for that tractor are easy to find..The factory wide front for a C is something you may have to hunt for..

That is a bit of more than one tractor. the only difference between the CA and the C is the cultivator bosses on the front.
The part that bolts to your engine with the steering arm cut off is for a C.
I have a CA front out back that I will try to get a picture of. It is froze down to the ground which might be a problem but I will try.

Not a close up of a CA I sold but you might be able to tell some.
