Well i got this wd45 engine in my "D" model grader. Oil pressure wasn't up to par when I started the engine. After many assurances that 15/20 lbs was allright, I took off the valve cover to see if I had any pressure at the rockers. WELL yes I did. So I put it back on and tightened the nuts that held it on. Since then it has has had a leak from the front and back of the cover. Does any one make a sturdier cover.

Thanks for all of the advice. I do tend to be a bit heavy-handed at times. Was hoping that I could get a cast or heaver one to use. Will reinstall with a bit gentler hand. CC

The only advice I can offer is that it is a delicate balance getting them right. The cover is usually splayed out in the middle from over tightening. I squeeze them in a vice until they're square again, or maybe even a little bowed in. Stick a new gasket to the cover, make sure it is worked out to the edges and dries there. I usually find a smooth hard surface to lay on it to hold it while it dries. Then install the cover, snugging it only as much as necessary to keep it from leaking. I've never tried it, but I'd bet wing nuts (especially on those fine threads) would give ample torque.

I do the same. Put some Permatex High Tack Gasket Sealant here and there on the cover and get the new gasket glued down. You don"t have to cover the entire cover with the Permatex. Just dab some about every 3 inches. This stuff is a pain to remove in the future. Tighten from the center out and you don"t have to tighten much.

Make sure the cover is not distorted where the bolt holes are and that it's still pushing the entire cover down.

Might have to use a small hammer and tap the metal back...or use a flat-faced drift (or even a hammer face) and another medium hammer to tap the material back flush with the top of the cover.

Don"t overtighten the nuts when putting the cover on....it really doesn"t take alot.
