I have removed over a dozen all the same way in a coupla minutes. Loosen the nut about half way, put a tourch on the hub, when it hot enough to burn the paint on the other side of the hub, take a steel bar and place on the bottom of the hub and give it a sharp blow with a heavy hammer. Pop and it is loose.
The loose nut rather than the nut off is so you don't have to chase the steering wheel.

A month ago I wanted to remove the steering wheel on my 1940 B. I removed the acorn nut, soaked it with PB Blaster for a few nights, rapped it on the back a few times with a dead blow hammer, and much to my surprise, it popped off! Kind of coincidential with the other posts here, but that's what happened.

You could try heating the hub of the steering wheel a bit to expand it. The faster you heat it the less heat will be transfered to the shaft, I am saying use a hot torch if you have one. If not it might still work.

Take the nut off and soak it with something like PB Blaster everyday for a week. If should come off then. After I soaked the steering wheel shaft I put a 2x4 acrossed the back of two of the spokes and gave the 2x4 a tap with a hammer and the wheel came right off.

i just removed one the other day on a 40b. after the nut is off, sprayed it up with pb blaster and let it set overnite. next day used an air hammer and drove it right off. i was concerned with the hollow shaft so i didnt use a puller on it.

Blaster and such works well on parts with a slip fit. Taper lock or press fit seals do not let any thing between the two surface. They will soften the rust in the key area and could help some.
