  • I never really thought about fabricating anything like the view mobile. Very happy to see the old pictures and learn a bit more about the unique history and ways tractors have been adapted.

  • I had forgotten all about this until I saw the picture of the View Mobile and the memories came back to me. I was 10 in 1960 when we moved to Colorado. I have such fond memories of Buffalo, but Niagara Falls holds a very special place in my heart. I have been back many times as it is just magical there!

  • I spent two summers '71-'72 while in college as a tour driver for the viewmobile. It was quite an experience. Since there was a shell over the tractor engine the heat was expelled under the drivers tractor seat. Quite warm on a hot summer day. The air brakes were hand controlled, the throttle was hand controlled, the 8-speed transmission shifter was between the drivers legs, and there was a hand-held CB mike for the driver to give his tour-guide spiel. We got very good steering with our elbow while we drove, talked, shifted, and braked. When it rained we got wet ! Rain suits were provided to the drivers.

  • Nice write-up but the transmission was called the Select-O-Speed (not Select-O-Shift or Select-O-Matic) and it was not an automatic transmission. The operator had to manually move the shifter to select the speed he wanted. There were 2 Reverse speeds and 10 Forward speeds along with Park and Neutral. It was a powershift transmission meaning you could shift between the different speeds while the tractor was moving.

Today's Featured Article - It Can't Be Done! - A Tractor Story - by Neil Campbell. I'll never forget the time back when I was a boy baling hay on our Farm in Big Rapid, Michigan. The most memorable event that took place was a trip up the steepest incline on the farm pulling an old New-Idea baler with a pony-motor for power and a haywagon. I had just talked my Dad into buying an old John Deere B with 6-speeds ahead and I was real proud of it, except it was a little smaller than the Case tractor that we normally ... [Read Article]
