  • What brand paint did you use? I like Dupont Centari but can't find a paint #. Good luck with your pride and joy.

  • Tyler, thanks for your article. I really enjoyed it. It never ceases to amaze me how tough these old machines really are; a little TLC and they are ready to work for many years to come!

  • A tractor resto that came in under budget, well miracles never cease. Just kidding, I got lucky like that once, see "Lazarus lives" in stories section. I know exactly what you mean about the first time an engine starts. Nice job and nice article.

  • Your story sounds like me! I bought a 52 B with a stuck engine and the head was off with one sleeve lifted a little. Got it last nov. and by dec had the engine turning. Was afraid to tear into a first time project and my good friend Jim walked me through the engine stuff. I have the tractor dismantled, half cleaned and primed, and am about to spend a sat with Jim putting the engine back together. Was fun to read your story. Thanks

  • Great article and timely. I'm working on an Allis B with the same problem, blue exhust smoke, though not as bad as the one you guys worked on. It too looks like someone was in the engine not too long ago for the sleeves and pistons look fine and the pistons are tight. But the end gap of the rings measured .116, almost .1 in over the maximum. My problem is where do I find a source for piston rings? I found lots of places that sell overhall kits with sleeves pistons rings etc but I don't need all of that stuff. Would appreciate any info you may have on parts sources. Thanks again for the article. Hope to have my Allis B running this summer. Sincerely, Jim Rutkowski Maple Grove MN

  • Always glad to hear of old iron (especially orange) saved from the scrap iron man. Tell Jon to get his decals from Lyle Wacker. Lyle's are the best quality and most original from what I've found. Brian

  • Hard to believe that the magneto problem was just a bad connection. I just acquired a square tank WC Allis and the Fairbanks Morris Mageto will not hit a lick. How easy are these gems to repair and whats a good step by step resouce?

  • Nice story Tyler, as having restored some tractors, it is a real thrill when the old tractor fires up for the first time. The skinned nuckles and dirty hands, it is worth it.Tyler, you do well as a writer also. I know how Jon proud is with his restored Allis.

  • A great story. My "B" was not that bad just needed new paint, brake shoes, and some nails to shim out the splines on the rear axles. Happy parading.

  • Tyler Woods (Allis B); It sure does feel good when any tractor comes back to life and the engine purrs strong. I did a similar job on my JD B 4 years ago. It is neat. You both did a real good job reviving the Allis B.
