Jim Vaughn wrote on Wednesday, December 20, 2000 (PST):The author of the article regarding nuts and bolts knows what he is talking about. It's refreshing to read something like this. Many of the things he spoke about I learned in the Navy during WW2 working on aircraft.
Barry Perkins wrote on Friday, August 10, 2007 (PDT):Nice article about fasteners but, I am wondering why you didn t bring up the subject of cam lock screws that were used in the older John Deere tractors. It only takes 1/4 turn to loosen them or tighten them. That is what is on my 1955 John Deere 40W two row tractor. They are nice but they are really hard to find when one gets lost.
Reid D Carr wrote on Thursday, May 12, 2022 (PDT):Excellent article but I would add that before reusing any self-locking nut that the prevailing torque should be checked for those used in critical safety applications such as steering and brakes. Prevailing torque charts are available free on the internet.
