  • Well written, interesting article about dueling 8Ns at the tractor pull. Makes me wonder if my little 8N is up to it...

  • Teri, a great article and congratulations on the pull!!
Melinda Merritt wrote on Thursday, June 01, 2000 (PDT):
  • Thanks for a great story. I am also a woman puller, and I know how intimidating it can be. We pull in Georgia and most of the time I am the only woman pulling. However it is satisfying when I win . I drive A Allis Chalmers WD-45 Diesel

  • I really liked this article! Stories like this just might even persuade my wife to get out and pull with our tractor.
Paul wrote on Saturday, June 03, 2000 (PDT):
  • Teri, I'm all for womens' rights and when I saw your column highlighted, I went right to it. But after reading it, I gotta say that it sounds too much like a fairy tale to me. Ever read to your kids "The little engine that could"???? (By the way, if it's a true story, I'll eat crow too.)
Teri wrote on Sunday, June 04, 2000 (PDT):
  • sorry Paul you feel this is a fairy tale! but it is TRUE! i guess you'll have to join Ben in eating a little CROW! beleive it or not some woman drive tractors for a living like i do and are use to doing it more then others! anyway, beleive me or not i have a whole club full of people to confirm this story is true!! thanks from reading!

  • It's great to read about women restoring/pulling. You have every reason to be proud. I'm proud of you. Thanks, Teri..

  • My wife Ginny and I both grew up on farms, and when we married we owned some. I gotta talk her into pulling. She would look better on the 2N, shes a lot better looking than I am, trust me.

  • It's good to hear of women pulling. I look foward to more.

  • Nice article, now maybe the wife will finally get on her Farmall H and start pulling, I'll have her read it...-John
Dave in Mo wrote on Thursday, June 22, 2000 (PDT):
  • Very nice article. There's no reason a woman can't compete in most things. I try to impress this on my wife and 3 daughters and they do well. I've never had the nerve to take our 8N to the County Fair pull we go to every year. There's always 100 plus tractors there and never, ever a Ford. No N's or hundreds, nothing. Last year I brought our Farmall 'A' and finished 4th out of 7 in our class. I bet all the Fords are left back on farms to work!!!!

  • I love tractor pulls!!! they are so fun!! you pull once and you get hooked on it!! My daddy has 3 girls and no boys he calls me the boy he never had. I dad was vtalking to some guy at a tractor pull and asked him "what do you do when you have a household full of girls and all they want to do is dive tractors?"
Sarah wrote on Saturday, October 05, 2002 (PDT):
  • That was a great story! I think that is so awesome you won! I'm a girl too and planning on startin to pull soon, so your article was very incouraging to me. Thanks!

  • Teri you and Ben sound like the wonderfull people that I met at Haycreek is that the case? Bill
Mike wrote on Monday, November 04, 2002 (PST):
  • Pulling here in west michigan there are a couple of women that pull with the men and send the old boys packing. My wife pulled for the first time in the 3500# class and took a 2nd the first time out and another girl taking 3rd. Out of about 10 tractors in the class they did pertty darn good. I think it is great that females join the ranks of the sport of pulling.. Have fun and win a few........
Susie Frick wrote on Friday, January 09, 2004 (PST):
  • I enjoyed your story and I also pull with a good group of guys, I pull a 6030 JD with the ISPA. I share you feelings, my brother did the same thing to me and I loved the challenge, that was in the 1970's. The past 6 years I have pull with his son. I get a lot of respect from the guys and I truly enjoy the ride. It is great to win{and I do} but our goal it to finish in the top 5 and be able to load up and go to the next pull.

  • tractors are for us girls too. I mean, who really wants to be in the kitchen?? I know I don't!! ;) I grew up on a tractor and have been tractor pullin over 15 years now. Always glad to see more women gettin into the sport. I mean, someones gotta show these men the correct way to handle a tractor!!

  • My girlfriend will watch me pull my Farmall MD but she will not pull/drive it. That is until this summer HA HA If she wants to become a wife, she will have to try to pull it at least once. I hope this article will help persuade her some. Thanks for sharing your great story. Brad

  • We lost our son at the age of 20. He and his dad farmed together, our way to survive in life was first to start an agricultural, mechanical scholarship in his name, the next was to find a pastime where we could be around young men and help them out. We both pull in the TRI County Antique Pullers of Texas. We now have 4 tractors and I recently started announcing. I just pulled with a G this weekend in Floresville, Tx. I love it, and I bet you do too!

What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract. ... [Read Article]
