  • Sam, I hope you take the time to show the farmer how his reworked tractor now looks. He may or may not appreciate it but I would at least offer.

  • Sam, Goes to show ya, Sugar is better than Vinegar! Similar thing happened when I bought my A Farmall. I promised the Original owner I would send him some pics of the tractor after it was restored. I came through with the pics and they promised me they would stop and listen to it purr when they were next in this area.//FB

  • Yours is a great story. I bought an old Farmall B about 6 months ago. When I bought it, I knew the engin was frozen. It still is. But I have liquid wrench sitting on the pistons hopeing that will help free it up. Restoring this tractor will be my first serious efort in being a mechanic. I have help, mostly in the form of advice, from several folks. Look forward to the day it will again run, and be used on my garden. Thanks for your article. It is really an inspirtation.

  • Great story. Truly caring about people is the best way to go in life. And by doing so, we are also rewarded more, and not just monetarily. dave in Mo. had the right idea bout taking it back for them to see it. He'll grin from ear to ear, I'll bet. i purchased a 730 Case from a friend of mine who had got it from an elderly farmer a couple of months before that. I restored it over the summer and then drove it 15 miles out to his place so he could see it. He wasn't very good on his feet so I helped him outside to take a look. He just stood there and looked it all over and grinned and said " I don't think it looked that good when it was brand new." I took his picture with it and then had it enlarged into an 11 x 14 and gave it to him. Made his day and I made some new good friends. It don't get much better than that.

  • Love the story, Life is more about building relationships than toys, not only did you get the tractor into a loving home but you brought joy and warmth to that family. I hope we all can touch peoples lives like that with our tractors. I got my 48 8N almost the same way...

  • Hello Sam, Sometimes there is a lot of history behind these old tractors . Sentimental or for whatever reason. It is nice to know. who knows the old timer might have purchased that tractor brand new with you being the proud second owner. I would send him a photo or maybe invite him by your place if he is in the area. It would probibly make his day knowing that his old tractor has a second chance. Have agreat day. Enjoy

Today's Featured Article - Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract. ... [Read Article]
