Rod, Some how I missed your earlier posts about your problem. If the deck is low in the area you have marked,most likely the counterbore is also low ,and it being low it will not support the the sleeve properly ,so there is your compression problem. The cure is one of two ways depending on whether the counterbore is cracked or not (504 is noted for cracked counterbores).If not cracked plane deck and recut bores, if cracked and depending on condition of deck whether to cut deck or not, counterbore repairs are available. Bore counterbore larger and deeper to install the repair and finish to proper dimension.
I did a 504 in a 1450 crawler this past winter, it had 2 cracked counterbores , planed the deck, recut 4 bores and installed 2 repairs . Makes the problem go away. I might even have some pictures of the repair operation as I did it.
