I can understand very well why someone would change to a dist. I have 10 gas tractors all pre 1954 that have dist. on them, all daily runners used around the farm. I also have 5 pre 1954 tractors that run a couple times a month that have mags on them. I spend at least 10 times as much time trying to keep 5 mags running than I do 10 dist. Five minutes and $5.00 will get any dist firing if I have trouble. If you had to mess with a mag at 30 degrees below zero in a 40 MPH wind to get the cattle fed you would have an entirely different view of the mags. If the dist. is set up with the right coil and proper resister it will run for many years with no problems, and if they get wet 5 minutes with a light bulb on the inside of the dist. cap and it will be running. Try that with a mag. I would never ever change my daily runners back to mags!! Just plain dumb #2.
