Pine straw is kinda like baling rice straw and it does a very good job as long as you get the windrow heavy enough.

Check the plunger for slack around the sides of the plunger. You can adjust the excess out.

Check the knotters and bill hooks for excess wear and slack. It takes new parts to get the slack out of them.

Trip the baler and spin it over a round or 2 by hand to check the timing and for hard spots. With no hay in it the baler should turn over and go thru the tying motions with just hand pressure.

Around here in SE Texas the baler would sell for from $250 to $750 depending on the condition and appearance.
