John Deere G | Several years ago, I found a 1947 'new style' styled Model G John Deere in a field full of junk machinery. The tractor is in really bad shape, but the motor isn't stuck. The head is off and you can rock the thing in gear and the pistons move. This tractor is #27000, and was sold in Raleigh NC. There is a guy in Iowa who has the last Styled G and I wanted to fix this one up and compare it to his. I called the owner (the son of the original buyer), who has more money than he needs, and asked him if I could buy the tractor. He said 'Well, I grew up driving that old tractor, and I really like that old tractor, and I don't think I want to sell that old tractor. . . ' Seems to me if he really liked the 'old tractor, ' he would want to see it lovingly restored rather than rusting away in a field with trees growing up through it. I check back occasionally, but I know one day, the scrap man will probably haul it away. Bob Gaddis, entered 2000-02-16 My Email Address: Not Displayed |
